The Blue Room Note — June 3-21

Welcome to the blue room! My name is Mrs. Katie Rogers and I will be teaching in the blue room Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I am looking forward to a fun-filled, delicious, and exciting summer. I will be including information about the focus of the week and activities that I hope to accomplish. The summer is a little more relaxed, so on really gorgeous days when it’s just right for the sprinkler, a horse ride, or just a walk around the pond, we will take the opportunity!

  • Please be sure to include the following in your child’s backpack every time he/she comes to Kinderfarm: change of clothes (t-shirt, shorts, socks, undies), a small towel, and a swimsuit.
  • Also, outdoor shoes (for chores and running around) and slippers for inside need to be sent every day.
  • Sunscreen will be reapplied after lunch, so if you wish to use sunscreen on your child for the first part of the day, you will need to apply it before your child comes to school.

June 3-7

Welcome Week

Chores for the week: Horses, Rabbits, Hens, Garden

We will spend the first week getting to know each other, the animals, the Kinderfarm campus, and the rules and routine! We will also be tending to the garden and flowers.

June 10-14

Space Week

Chores for the week: Goats, Cats, Recycling, Pigs

Monday:The class will work cooperatively in small groups to complete a space puzzle and each child will create a rocket using the letters of his/her name. There will also be a space station dramatic play area set up for the week!

Wednesday:Today will allow for some outdoor fun with a stomp-rocket and galaxy handprint. Painting with a spray bottle might get a little messy, OLDER CLOTHES would be a good idea for today!

Friday:Exploring the planets with the felt board will be fun after making a moon snack using rice-cakes. The book “Solar System” will help us with our activity today.

June 17-21

Week of Dinosaurs

Chores for the week: Horses, Rabbits, Hens, Garden

Monday:Ms. Casey from the Iowa City Library will join us this morning. Measuring how big a dinosaur and a footprint would have been and measuring toy dinosaurs will be our activities for today. First, a mini-lesson on inches and feet!

Wednesday:Dinosaur identification will be on the agenda today. I will choose some from each size-group to build off of our lesson Monday.

Friday:A dino-dig will work on fine-motor skills and team-work. The blue room will be making a snack, creating a stegosaurus will be the objective.

Looking forward to a great start to the summer,

Mrs. Rogers
